When you see more fine lines and wrinkles popping up in your appearance, you might start scrambling for a solution. Age-related changes are a normal part of the aging process, but most people like to reduce their appearance.
The usual go-tos are skincare products like creams and moisturizers, but these don’t work for everyone. Neuromodulator injections are much more effective for most people.
Cosmetic injectables like Botox and Xeomin use neuromodulator effects to diminish the appearance of age-related changes and stop further ones from developing.
Columbia Laser Skin Center in The Dalles, OR, provides these cosmetic injectables for clients who want to achieve more youthful-looking skin. Learn more about neuromodulators and how they work below.
Neuromodulators are a type of cosmetic injectable that work directly with the nerves and muscles in the face to reduce age-related changes.
As you age, continuous facial movement can lead to wrinkles, fine lines, and creases in your skin. This is because aging skin contains less collagen and elastin, making its elasticity very low. The skin is unable to return to its smooth appearance after you make common facial expressions like smiling, laughing, or frowning.
Cosmetic injectables that work through neuromodulation contain a component called botulinum toxin, which temporarily suppresses the functioning of the nerves and muscles.
This can reduce skin movement, preventing wrinkles and fine lines from forming. It can also cause the skin to become tighter and smoother, making existing signs of aging less visible.
Botox is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the world, helping both men and women of all ages. These neuromodulator injectables are often administered around the mouth, eyes, forehead, and nose to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
Xeomin is another neuromodulator that can reduce age-related changes in your skin. While Xeomin and Botox both work in the same fashion, Xeomin contains a more pure form of botulinum toxin, which produces more significant results for some patients.
Many clients who seek neuromodulators as an anti-aging treatment are in their mid-30s and older. It is around this age that most people begin to really see signs of aging in their skin, as collagen and elastin production has decreased and the skin is losing its elasticity.
With that being said, younger patients can also benefit from neuromodulation. Clients in their mid- to late 20s sometimes seek Botox or Xeomin treatment as a preventative to wrinkle formation since it limits excessive movement in their skin.
Have you had Botox or Xeomin injections before? If not, you may have some questions and concerns about the procedure. The following are just a few of the frequently asked questions our clients have about neuromodulator injectables.
Before you can receive Botox or Xeomin, you must speak to one of our cosmetic medicine providers. This is to ensure that neuromodulators are the right choice for your skin. We need to assess your age-related changes and determine which method of treatment will best meet your needs.
If we find that you are a good candidate for Botox or Xeomin, you will be able to begin treatment.
Both Botox and Xeomin are outpatient procedures. You will be able to return home and resume normal activity immediately after your session is complete. There is no recovery or downtime necessary after receiving neuromodulator injections.
Botox and Xeomin are minimally invasive, with no incisions or sutures required. This means there is no need for general anesthesia. Most patients are able to receive a topical anesthetic or numbing cream prior to their injections being administered. This provides for optimal comfort during the process.
For most patients, a Botox or Xeomin treatment takes anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes. This time can vary depending on the number of injections being administered and the areas of the face being treated.
One of the biggest benefits of neuromodulators is that they begin working immediately. Within hours of your treatment, you will notice that your skin feels firm and tight. Your facial movement will be limited, and your complexion will look smoother, with fewer fine lines and wrinkles.
The neuromodulation effects of Botox and Xeomin are not permanent. The suppressed facial movement and reduction in wrinkles and fine lines will last around three to four months for most patients.
At this time, the effects of your injections will begin to wear off, and you will notice your skin has regained motion. To maintain your youthful appearance, you can have your injections readministered two to three times per year.
If you’re tired of seeing fine lines and wrinkles when you look in the mirror, neuromodulators could be the solution you need. Neuromodulator injectables like Botox and Xeomin work directly with the nerves and muscles in your face to limit movement and reduce the appearance of age-related changes like wrinkles and creasing.
These treatments are simple, fast, and effective, giving you the anti-aging benefits you’ve been striving for.
