Everything Patients Want to Know About Botox Injectables

One of the many changes you experience as you age is the natural decline in collagen and elastin production in your skin. These two components help your skin remain smooth, firm, and tight.

When collagen and elastin decrease in your skin, age-related changes begin to develop. Skin will begin to droop and sag, showing a lack of elasticity. Wrinkles and fine lines will form due to continuous facial expressions.

To reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and creases in the skin, many people turn to over-the-counter products. These serums and moisturizers can be beneficial for aging skin, but they often fail to produce significant results. A more effective option can be getting Botox treatment.

Botox injectables decrease facial movement and help prevent wrinkle formation. Columbia Laser Skin Center in The Dalles, OR, offers Botox injectables to combat age-related changes. Read on to learn more about this cosmetic treatment.

What Is Botox?

Botox is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment that aims to reduce and prevent certain age-related changes. The treatment is administered through ultrafine injections into the skin that subdue overactive facial muscles and nerves. Botox treatment is an outpatient procedure that involves no recovery or downtime afterward.

How Do Neuromodulators Work?

Botox is a neuromodulator that works directly with the facial nerves and muscles to reduce wrinkles. Continuous facial expressions like frowning and smiling can lead to wrinkle formation when levels of collagen and elastin decrease. Neuromodulators like Botox temporarily paralyze these nerves and limit excess motion in the face.

Once the facial nerves and muscles are paralyzed, wrinkles and fine lines are reduced and skin becomes smoother. The formation of further wrinkles, fine lines, and creases is also prevented as facial movement is limited.

The Benefits of Botox Treatment

Botox injectables are a popular cosmetic treatment for a number of reasons. When you choose to have Botox, you can expect to experience the following benefits:

  • Smoother skin
  • Decrease in wrinkles and fine lines
  • Diminished crow’s feet
  • Diminished forehead creases
  • Prevention of further wrinkle formation
  • More youthful appearance

Some of the biggest benefits of Botox treatment are in the convenience of the procedure. Botox is non-surgical; there is no anesthesia, incisions, sutures, or scarring involved. It is an outpatient procedure, allowing patients to return home immediately after treatment. There is no recovery or downtime necessary after having Botox.

How Is Botox Administered?

Before having Botox or any other cosmetic treatment performed, it’s beneficial to understand what the process entails. Below is a breakdown of how Botox injectables are administered.

Before

Before your Botox treatment, we’ll ask you to schedule a consultation with one of our cosmetic medicine providers. This ensures that Botox is the best course of treatment to meet your needs. If we find that Botox will not benefit your skin, we will advise you on alternative options that may be better suited for your aesthetic needs.

During

During your Botox session, you will be able to sit or lie back comfortably while your treatment is administered. In some cases, to provide optimal comfort, we may apply a topical anesthetic to your skin.

Before beginning, we will mark the areas of your skin where the injections will be given. These areas will be determined during your initial consultation. For many patients, this includes the eye area, forehead, and around the mouth.

Once your treatment sites have been marked, we will begin administering the injections. Botox is injected under the skin in multiple places around the injection site using an ultrafine needle. This entire process can take anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes, depending on the areas being treated.

After

After your Botox session is complete, you will be able to return home and resume normal activity right away. There is no downtime or recovery involved. The Botox will begin working immediately to subdue the facial nerves.

In the hours and days following your Botox session, you will notice that your skin looks smoother and feels more firm. This decrease in facial movement will also prevent further wrinkles and fine lines from forming.

The effects of Botox will last about three to four months. As time passes, you will begin to notice that the movement in your face is gradually restored. Once the effects have completely worn off, you will be able to have another Botox session completed.

Are You a Good Candidate for Botox Injectables?

If you are struggling with fine lines, wrinkles, and other age-related changes, you may be a good candidate for Botox.

These signs of aging can begin to manifest as early as your mid-20s. Many patients begin seeking Botox injections around this age to prevent further wrinkle formation. Older patients who already have mild to moderate wrinkle formation also benefit from Botox injections.

The best way to know if Botox is right for you is by scheduling a consultation. Our providers will assess your skin to determine whether Botox injectables are the right choice for you.
