Microdermabrasion FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions about Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a safe and effective treatment to improve the appearance of the skin. MDA gently removes the top layer of dead skin cells through manual exfoliation using tiny crystals and vacuum. Microdermabrasion is great for:

  • Treating acne – especially in combination with facial peels
  • Cleaning our blackheads
  • Reducing the size of enlarged pores
  • Smoothing dull, rough skin
  • Fading hyperpigmentation
  • Increasing the production of healthy new skin cells and collagen

What are the most common side effects?
Redness is the most common. It is typically mild and usually lasts less than 12-24 hours. Peeling or scaling may occur, but is usually very mild and short-lived. Stinging sensation is rare, but can occur after exposure to:

  • Sun
  • Heat
  • Perspiration
  • Certain chemical ingredients in skin care products
  • Salicylic acid
  • Glycolic acid
  • Lactic acid
  • Retinol
  • Fragrances & dyes

What does it feel like?
Microdermabrasion is considered a lunch time peel and can be easily performed on a lunch hour. The sensation of microdermabrasion is very similar to a cat licking you face. Is has a rough, sand-paper like feel. Most everyone finds microdermabrasion to be very comfortable.

When can I expect results from my microdermabrasion?
Immediately after your microdermabrasion you will notice that your skin feels smoother and softer. You will also notice an improvement in a reduction in blackheads and pore size. Fading of hyperpigmentation will take a series of microdermabrasion (usually 6 or more), and sometimes in conjunction with facial peels and or laser treatments for optimal results.

How long will my results last?
As kids our bodies make new skin cells every 28 days. However, over time that process begins to slow down to 40-50 days. And as a result we start to notice a build-up of dead skin cell layer and dull rough skin again. To maintain your results we recommend that you have a maintenance microdermabrasion every 12-16 weeks to keep your pores clean and skin looking fabulous.
